About us

Sweetwater Royalties owns more than four million mineral acres and approximately one million fee surface acres in Wyoming, Utah and Colorado (the "Land Grant") as well as four hundred and fifty thousand mineral acres in the Upper Michigan area near the Eagle Mine. Sweetwater Royalties provides our partners with opportunities to develop natural resources as well as access to grazing and the renewable energy sector along the Land Grant. The Land Grant asset package dates to the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862 and provides value to Sweetwater through a diverse array of natural resources, primarily trona.

Sweetwater Royalties is a privately held company established in 2020 by Orion Mine Finance. In March 2023 Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan acquired a 25% interest in Sweetwater Royalties.

Our Assets

Sweetwater Royalties strives to provide investment opportunities to encourage development in a manner that protects the environment and respects our rich history.

Our largest land position is referred to as The Land Grant which stretches from Utah through Wyoming and into Colorado. The Land Grant was created in 1862 during President Lincoln’s administration to encourage western United States development by granting investors surface and mineral rights as well as investment in a transcontinental railway.

Our mineral acreage in Michigan is prospective for nickel and copper, critical for the electric vehicle and green energy transitions.

Our royalty revenue is sustained by a diversity of mineral, agricultural and energy sources including our flagship trona royalty in Sweetwater County, Wyoming which is the lowest-cost, largest-known trona deposit globally.
